In the Relaxation Zone
In the Relaxation Zone
After previously remodeling the client’s living room, we transformed their crumbling back porch and pergola into a stylish, functional outdoor space perfect for entertaining. We leveled the area for better accessibility, especially for their two dogs, and added motorized screens to enclose the space as needed so it’d be ready for use, regardless of season.
The centerpiece is an electronic firebox, offering warmth and ambiance without the maintenance of a traditional fireplace. To maintain continuity with the living room, we used the same stacked stone in “sanya white” around the fireplace. Four center skylights flood the space with natural light, composite decking helps creates a flat surface, and lattice skirting flanks the space, creating an inviting atmosphere.
Now, the porch serves as both a comfortable work area and a relaxing retreat, blending style and practicality seamlessly.
Reinvented Space
We transformed this once-dysfunctional back porch into a fully usable extension of the home, effectively adding an entire new room. To ensure the addition felt like it was always part of the original structure, we matched the siding to the existing home, painted the lattice skirting to align with the home’s trim, and finished the exterior with the same color palette. The result is a seamless, cohesive space that blends perfectly with the original design while adding valuable square footage.
Before & After
Room to Grow
One of the most memorable features of this home renovation was the resilient maple tree that originally grew inside a small courtyard.
During the planning phase, the homeowner debated whether to keep the tree, remove it, or plant something new. Ultimately, the tree’s ability to survive the entire demolition and remodel process became a symbol of strength and resilience. As a result, the decision was made to preserve the tree, and it now stands as a beautiful, living testament to the home’s transformation.
