Lake Norman Mid-Century Modern Remodel

When the homeowners purchased this 1975 waterfront property in Denver, North Carolina, they envisioned transforming an outdated, disjointed lake house into a cohesive mid-century modern retreat. Years of renovations and an awkward addition had left the home feeling disconnected, with inefficient hallways and a layout that lacked flow. Their goal was to restore the home’s architectural character while incorporating bold design elements, improved functionality, and personal touches.

The transformation, completed over multiple phases, earned Best Residential Interior Between $100,000–$250,000 at the 2022 Remodeler of the Year (RotY) Awards, with the home’s distinctive mint green guest bathroom later receiving Best Bathroom Under $70,000 at the 2023 RotY Awards.

Our team began by reimagining the primary suite, central staircase, and laundry room. The redesigned primary suite features expansive windows that maximize Lake Norman views, an enlarged walk-in closet, a spacious two-person shower, and clean lines that embrace the home’s mid-century roots.

The next phase focused on improving guest accommodations and shared living spaces. An outdated kitchenette was transformed into a new bedroom with an en suite bathroom, while existing bedrooms and bathrooms were reconfigured for better flow. The award-winning mint green guest bathroom features playful geometric accents and a striking slat wall, perfectly capturing the home’s refreshed mid-century aesthetic.

The walk-out basement was also transformed into a stylish entertainment retreat, featuring a custom wet bar, statement wallpaper, and updated finishes. A colorful bathroom with blush cabinetry and a cleverly converted home office further showcase the home’s personality and thoughtful use of space.

By carrying cohesive materials, colors, and architectural details throughout each phase, this award-winning renovation brings new life to a beloved lakefront property while honoring its mid-century modern origins. The result is a home that feels both timeless and uniquely personal, blending thoughtful craftsmanship with the homeowners’ distinctive vision.
